On the 21 of August, a group of 28 students from Te Awamutu Intermediate travelled to Porrit Stadium in Hamilton to compete in the national Inter-Intermediate school cross country. We all got there at about 9:00 and found a spot to sit for the day. Up first was the year seven girls. Megan Bethell went really well and ended up winning her race. Next up was the year seven boys. The best place in it was 24 for our school. Thirdly was the year eight girls which also we didn’t win but got 23. Lastly was my race, the year eight boys. Last year I got third so I was aiming to get better. We all went for a light warm up around the stadium and lined up on the start line. READY………………………..SET…………………………BANG! The clapper went off and everyone sprinted off into a narrow gap between a pair of trees. When we came out of the first corner I was coming around tenth so I started to pick up my pace. When we reached the second lap I was in seventh (and covered in mud) and Ried was way behind me so I was happy as he beat me at our school compertition. We came around to the muddyest part of the course when disaster struck. I slipped into a deep whole and lost three places putting me in tenth. I was really angry because there was only two more corners to go. In the end I managed to pass one person putting me in 9th place. When I got my placing down they told me that I had been put up to seventh as two people were caught cutting the track so I was happy. In the end I beat Ried by ten places so I was really raped. After the races we found out that our year seven girls ended up 2nd and our year eight girls 3rd.

I think the word you wanted was rapt!
And you should have been, it sounds like it was a great race.
