Cross-Country.

On Wednesday the 13th of August, our school had our annual Cross-country competition. Last year I got first and 3rd at the waikato’s. This year I knew that it was going to be hard as everyone had been training allot. The race for the year eight boys started at ten past two as all of the other age groups were to be held before my race. At 2:00 we started to warm up and do some stretches before going to the start line. READY………..GO!!!  The clapper went and everyone started to bolt in a mad panic. I was about 3rd out behind Campbell and Kuta. We all came around the first corner, squeezing through a narrow pathway. After a while I started to puff, well not just puff, wheeze. I managed to get into first at half way by Reid was right behind me. We came down the ally way and I could hear him right be hind me. I imagined that he was a lion about to ponce on me which made me sprint. At about 500 meters to go, Reid made his move, he had been waiting all this time right behind me. He finally past me and sprinted, I followed him but he was just to quick, he bolted and won the race.

At the end of the race I congratulated Reid and went to the placings desk.

The race was really close but in the end I got second which is the first time in my time at school.

Patrick… it is so amazing how much your school and mine have in common! We also do the Cross Country which 3 km. As I read this wonderful post, I could actually feel you wheezing, just as I always do when I run because I have mild asthma, and the others in front of you. In the end, I was disappointed that you came second because you have such great spirit and you’ve done a magnificent effort! I really wish you cam first, but you tried your best and came 2nd, so you should be proud. :)
Did you make it to the next round? I hope you did because you deserve it!!!
P.S You were so extra creative imagining a lion behind you to sprint. I should try that myself, thanks for the idea! I can’t believe Reid actually made it first.
Hugs, Nadine :P

Sometimes getting a second place gives you that determination to get back up their in the winners place. You certainly redeemed yourself at the Inter Intermediate Cross country. Well done.
